HYLO is now the most pioneering tall-building retrofit in London. It is a modern masterpiece of a 12-storey vertical extension to an existing 16-storey building from 1960s. The façade mirrors the colours, textures, and sturdiness of the adjacent buildings by incorporating brick panels with flush lime pointing, establishing a double-height design. Within this framework, uncomplicated windows are presented, gradually receding deeper into the façade as the building's height increases.
Fassaden+Architektur+Technik have developed a proof-of-concept unitisation strategy and tender detailing for the integration of curtain wall and brick cladding.
